RiverStone’s Guide to Being Present on Your Wedding Day

“Wherever you are, be all there.” Jim Elliot

Wedding season is in full swing, and RiverStone could not be more excited! From start to finish, we LOVE wedding planning, and we hope you are enjoying it too! We want to help you soak up every bit of this once in a lifetime experience! So before the big day arrives, check out our wedding day Do’s and Don’ts to help you BE PRESENT on your wedding day!

WEDDING DAY “DO’s”

Disconnect Digitally

Do yourself a favor. Get rid of the cell phones and social media for a day! Have conversations IRL and make memories that are #unfiltered.

Have your Cake, and Eat it Too!

The same goes for hors d’oeuvres and entrées. Many couples get so caught up in greeting guests and managing event details that they forget (or run out of time) to eat. You put a lot of thought into your menu selections. Don’t forgo this part of the experience! Bon Appétit!

Look Around

Take a minute to snap some mental pictures of the beauty surrounding you. Make eye contact with your spouse– CLICK. Notice a beautiful flower arrangement or napkin fold – CLICK. Acknowledge how much you value the members of your wedding party- CLICK. Remind yourself to pause periodically just to take it all in!

Bring your Dancing Shoes

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it 1,000 times. Bring a change of shoes…or clothes…or whatever you need to ensure that you are comfortable enough to fully enjoy yourself! Then get out there and DANCE like no one’s watching!

Delegate a Wing Person

Everyone needs one! Make sure that your point person is trustworthy, capable, and willing. Then be sure to actually call on them when needed…

Be Grateful

“The real gift of gratitude is that the more grateful you are, the more present you become.” Robert Holden

You have just said “I Do,” to the love of your life! This is the beginning of your future! Counting your blessings in the moment will help you stay grounded to the present.

WEDDING DAY “DON’Ts”

Sweat the Small Stuff

In the words of Idina Menzel, LET IT GOOOOO! If you’re wondering whether the thing you’re sweating is the “small stuff,” it probably is! Don’t let yourself get bogged down in the details. (Hand them over to your wing person!) When you let go of some of the unnecessary stressors, you will be freed up to enjoy your day!

Rush

Take your time walking down the aisle. Speak slowly as you exchange vows. Savor the last dance just as much as the first. Nerves have a way of messing with our perceptions of time, and chances are what feels slow to you is actually happening at a normal pace. Regardless, this is your chance to shine! So don’t rush it!

If you are intentional about living in the moment, we are confident that your wedding day will be a dream come true!
